Do You Know How to Stretch?

All right! So, we all know the importance of giving our bodies a proper stretch before starting any workout session; right? But, do you know how to properly stretch to avoid muscle pain or worse injury? At 212 Degree Fitness, we make it our top priority to ensure you know the right steps to stretch your muscles prior to jumping into your workout. We want to make sure you get the most out of your workout and most importantly, that you have properly prepared your body through a proper stretch routine. Best part, it’s simple and quick and our trainers can even take a few extra minutes at the gym to go over stretch techniques with you.
So, why not take the time to learn how to give your body a proper stretch through a simple and effective stretch routine? We already know the importance of stretching so it’s definitely not optional!
To avoid any pain or discomfort we recommend you warm up, move slow and ease your body into stretching. If you are holding a stretch and you feel pain or discomfort, ease off the stretch. Stretching should not be a painful experience! The first sign of resistance is the point to stop and hold a stretch. Stretches should be held for 10 to 15 seconds. Optionally, you can stretch a bit more if it feels right. But remember, stretching should not be painful!
During any successful stretch session remember to keep breathing. Breathe in slowly and deeply as you move your body through a series of stretches. Deep breathing is also a great stress reliever and what better way to commence your workout than to stretch your muscles, alleviate your stresses and focus on your mind, body and soul all in one movement!
Of course, we’d like to remind you that stretching is not something to be taken lightly or engaged in on an infrequent basis. Proper stretching should become a part of your normal workout routine: hit the gym, complete your stretch session and then commence your workout. Be sure that your stretching actively engages different groups of your muscles. Do not focus on one muscle group but be sure to stretch all muscle groups equally.
