It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The holidays bring celebration, family, wintry fun….and a whole lot of indulgence! When you’re diligently working towards your personal fitness goals, it can be hard to jump whole-heartedly into the Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities. Don’t worry – there are plenty of ways to thoroughly enjoy the holiday season and to enter the New Year without feeling like you’ve lost all fitness progress.
Plan Ahead: When heading to a family dinner where you know there will an abundance of food (especially desserts), try eating a healthy snack and drinking lots of water ahead of time. Not only will this keep you on track for hitting your macros for the day, you’ll satiate your hunger and avoid overindulgence.
Everything in Moderation: The holidays are a special time of year, and a major part of them is enjoying food and drink with family and friends. There’s no reason to completely deprive yourself of a favorite dessert or an extra slice of turkey. Simply be mindful of portion sizes and learn to say thanks, but no thanks! Keep in mind, alcohol can be a source of unnecessary calories and sugar, so enjoy your festive cocktails in moderation.
Stick to Your Schedule: At this time of year, everyone gets so busy! Between visiting family and friends and Christmas shopping, make time for yourself and stick to your workout schedule as closely as possible. If you’re out of town – keep a few home workouts handy, and when you can, visit the gym. Steadily attending the gym throughout the holiday season has so many benefits; from having some personal time away from all the hustle and bustle, to getting a great pump going thanks to all those extra calories. At 212 Degree Fitness, our qualified trainers can help you make use of those extra calories with some awesome strength workouts!
The holiday season is truly a magical time of year! Remember to enjoy yourself. Restricting and depriving yourself completely won’t do you any good – focus on moderation and sticking to your workout schedule. 212 Degree Fitness has tons of classes and personal trainers available to help you meet your fitness goals this holiday season!
